E-Invoicing Readiness in the UAE
Mandatory e-invoicing reaches businesses under AED 50 million on 1 July 2027. We clean your data, help you choose an accredited provider and test everything before go-live.
E-invoicing is not a PDF sent by email. Every B2B invoice becomes structured data in the PINT AE format, validated and exchanged through accredited providers, with tax data reported to the FTA almost in real time. Any error in your customer records, VAT codes or credit notes becomes a rejected invoice.
Most of the work is in your books, not the software. We approach e-invoicing as accountants: fix the data first, then connect the system, then test until nothing bounces.
The timeline
| Who | Appoint an ASP by | Go live |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue of AED 50 million or more | 30 October 2026 | 1 January 2027 |
| Revenue below AED 50 million | 31 March 2027 | 1 July 2027 |
| Government entities | 31 March 2027 | 1 October 2027 |
What missing it costs
Under the revised penalty framework announced on 30 October 2026, failing to implement e-invoicing costs AED 5,000, then AED 5,000 for every month it continues, capped at AED 50,000 in any 12 consecutive months. Separate fines of AED 100 per e-invoice or credit note not issued correctly apply, capped monthly. The bigger cost is commercial: once large customers are live, they will expect valid e-invoices from their suppliers.

Frequently asked questions
When does e-invoicing become mandatory for small businesses in the UAE?
Businesses with revenue below AED 50 million must appoint an accredited service provider by 31 March 2027 and go live on 1 July 2027.
Does e-invoicing apply if I'm not VAT registered?
Yes. The mandate covers B2B and B2G transactions for businesses in the UAE regardless of VAT registration, unless a specific exclusion applies.
Is a PDF invoice an e-invoice?
No. A UAE e-invoice is structured data in the PINT AE format exchanged through accredited providers, with tax data reported to the FTA. A PDF sent by email does not count.
Do free zone companies need e-invoicing?
Yes. Free zone and designated zone companies follow the same timeline as mainland businesses.
Do I need a provider to receive e-invoices too?
Yes. In the UAE's five-corner model, both the supplier and the buyer use accredited providers, so you need one to receive e-invoices from your suppliers as well as to send your own.
